Winair is proud to announce a major milestone in the expansion of its ground handling services. Through its dedicated division, WGH (Winair Ground Handling), the airline welcomes Southwest Airlines as a new client at Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM).

Beginning April 7, 2026, WGH will provide full above-the-wing and below-the-wing ground handling services, supporting Southwest Airlines’ launch of operations to St. Maarten.

Southwest Airlines, one of the largest and most recognized carriers in the United States, serves more than 100 destinations and operates one of the world’s largest fleets of Boeing 737 aircraft. The airline will introduce nine weekly flights to St. Maarten, including daily service from Orlando and twice-weekly service from Baltimore, significantly enhancing connectivity between the island and key U.S. markets.

Being selected to support an airline of this scale reflects the strength, reliability, and professionalism of Winair’s ground handling team.

“Welcoming Southwest Airlines as a ground handling client is a major achievement for Winair,” said Edwin Hodge, Director of Ground Handling St. Maarten. “Southwest is a globally recognized carrier with a strong reputation for operational excellence and customer service. Being entrusted to support their operations at SXM is a testament to the quality, professionalism, and dedication of our team.”

WGH will deliver a full range of services, including passenger handling, check-in and boarding, ramp operations, baggage services, aircraft servicing, and turnaround coordination, ensuring seamless and efficient operations.

With a growing portfolio that now includes seven airline partners, Winair Ground Handling continues to expand its footprint in the aviation services sector.

The arrival of Southwest Airlines to St. Maarten represents a significant boost in airlift and connectivity, and Winair is proud to play a key role in supporting this important development.

As Winair continues to grow, both in the air and on the ground, the company remains committed to delivering excellence, reliability, and strong partnerships across the Caribbean aviation industry.
