No, we are not feeling blue, but very happy actually.. today the happy island of Aruba proudly celebrates their national Flag and Anthem.

The Aruban flag has these colors and with significant reasons;
The blue is for the sea that surrounds the Isle,
The yellow represents the color of plenty (Aruba's gold, Aloë and oil industry of past and present),
The red reflects love that all Arubans feel for their island, as well as the former Brazilian wood industry,
And white stands for the gorgeous pure white beaches as well as the character of Arubans that stand for justice, order and freedom!

The symbols are a red star and two yellow lines. The star represents the four points of a compass as the islands attracted people from all directions of the world. And the star is surrounded like the Island by the beautiful blue sea. the stripes stand for the free and independent position of Aruba within the Kingdom of The Netherlands.

On March 18th, Arubans across the globe celebrate Dia di Himno y Bandera. Every year this patriotic national holiday is celebrated with parades of Boy Scouts, sport and game activities and cultural festivities that highlight the gastronomic delights of Aruba all around the island.

But there is more history behind this day, in 1948 the politician Shon A. Eman filed the first official request to secede from The Netherlands Antilles, and in 1976 the independence was a fact, which was celebrated with the ratification of the Flag and National anthem. Arubans are extremely proud of their anthem "Aruba Dushi Tera" a Wals composed by three famous Aruban artists Juan Chabaya “Padu” Lampe, Rufo Wever, en Hubert Booi. A charming statue, which is you can admire on Plaza Padu in the centre of Oranjestad, is dedicated to these authors. Be sure to check it out on your next visit.

We wish everyone a very Happy Flag Day, especially all Arubans!
